2009, November
– the third coast, film, cross-processed, artists journey
The Third Coast: the coastal northeast region of Illinois; delineated to the north by Wisconsin and to the South by Indiana. It is a land of much beauty, desolation, and unbridled reality. Hazy power plants, abandoned military bases, and lonesome parks dot the edge of the great lake like so many sentinels, silently watching the sun rise over the lake day in and day out.
Interestingly, there were very few people enjoying The Third Coast during the fall months of 2009. But then again, in a society increasingly dependent upon technology to satiate increasingly complex vices, it is not that surprising that people would rather watch their plasma tubes than spend time on the beach.
My travels that day on the third coast have forever changed me. Though it was primarily a photographic expedition, it would later inspire a type face bearing the same name.
